From On the River
Please add any ideas for what civic studio might do in our project on the river. PLease include any and all ideas that come to mind. This includes the impossible and infeasible. If projects get taken up a link will be created from the list item below to create a project page.
- Invite different groups to meet at the studio and document it. We could invite the city commission to hold one of their meetings at the studio.
- Talk to people who regularly walk the bridge and map where they are coming and going from.
- Pump river water onto the bridge possibly using a bike-driven pump.
- Do something with the fact that Grand Rapids got rid of it's rapids and now wants to put them back. Grand Re-Rapids.
- find documentation and stories from the plastic duck races that used to be done on the river.
- Syphon water from one side, over the bridge, and release it back on the other.
- Put a Farmers Market-like (striped) canopy across one or both sides of the bridge
- Help with the River Cleanup and document curious objects and map them on the wiki
- Work with the Portable Cinema project to have them show a Location-relevant film.
- Have a day to share memories/images of the River Raft Race- beginning with the photo archive http://merz.art.gvsu.edu/gallery/v/other/riverraft/
- Video Projection of fish/fishing
- Exhibit Giles' River - Public Transportation Video
- Songs - On the River - invite songwriters to write songs about the river and perform them.
- Compile a set of River Songs and play them at the River - Dance to them
- An event with Kayaks - Kayak Flash Mob
- Kayak choreography w/ candles - shoot video
- Do projections of Different projects each night of ArtPrize - second week is repeat of favorites
- West Siders meet East Siders at the midpoint of the Bridge.
- Play sound art through speakers over the water
- Large scale projection onto surrounding landmarks
- PSA about pollution in the river
