Pathways to a Picnic was an event with artist Julie Upmeyer and Civic Studio on the Interurban (Gillett) Bridge on Thursday, October 15th 4pm. Julie Upmeyer brought her Virtual Chef project to Michigan, inviting Grand Rapidians to bring an ingredient for a bridge-top feast. We created new recipes with the ingredients at hand, guided by ‘virtual’ chefs throughout the world, who connected with us through the Internet.

This assignment page is for creating an Ingredient Map to show the components’ pathways from their source, to the bridge.

Julie Upmeyer is a GVSU alumna based in Istanbul. Julie is an artist and initiator working with everyday materials and space: paper, plastic, food, the Internet, her home, and the street.

How to make a page for a Pathways to a Picnic:

Click the link above. It will ask you to name the page you want to create. Type in a very brief description of where you took your pictures (it's only one location per page.) Ex. “Pumpkin seeds from the Standale Meijer”. After typing in a name, it will bring you to an edit content page where you can upload a main photo for your experience, type a description of the location, and upload more images. To mark a map location, type in "Grand Rapids" and search for your area. Changing the view to 'satellite' also helps to see landmarks that the other map does not show.
