From On the River
Sounds along the River is an assignment about recording and documenting the sounds heard along the Grand River. The tranquil sounds of the river are relaxing but easily go unnoticed. This assignment helps to activate the ears for a more focused listening of the immediate landscape. By recording, photographing, and mapping the location of your sound, we can start to distinguish the different areas of the river. The combination of sound (audio) with a photo (visual) creates a surreal experience. Grab a sound recorder and camera and add to our map of sounds!
How to make a page for a river sound recording:
Make a separate page for each sound. Click the link above. It will ask you to name the page you want to create. Type in a very brief description of where you recorded the sound file that you’re uploading (its only one sound file per page.) Ex. “Sounds In front of the Ford Museum” (be sure to include the word "sounds" in your description) After typing in a name, it will bring you to an edit content page where you can upload a main photo for you your recording, type a description of the location, and upload more images. To mark a map location, type in "Grand Rapids" and search for your area. Changing the view to 'satellite' also helps to see landmarks that the other map does not show.
