Oftentimes, coffee shops are considered a harbinger of gentrification within transitioning or “come up” neighborhoods. Revitalization, reinvestment, redevelopment… all of these things are meant to fix the issue and bring about a new age of economic prosperity. But what is the issue? And why is the “fix” 1200 square feet of gray paint and sustainably sourced coffee beans?
