Visiting Incubate Chicago

2008

The studio's trip to Chicago allowed us a unique glance into the studios of practicing artists as well as the opportunity to meet and talk with the artists working in a variety of fashions. We met Ben Schaafsma and Abigail Satinsky of InCubate (Institute for Community Understanding Between Art and the Everyday), Geraldine Juarez of Forays, Lora of People Powered, and Marc Fischer of Temporary Services, Mess Hall and Public Collectors. Ben and Abby graciously allowed us to invade their studio where each artist gave a presentation on their past and current work. After the presentations, we were able to ask questions and talk with the artists. The discussions ranged from how to work as an artist while still in grad school to how to effectively dumpster dive. We ended our trip at the MCA with the Gordon Matta-Clark retrospective.
